Go Tell Your Friends What Johnny Did

Seeming as its been quite a while I will try and remember it like it was yesterday

You know how after you see something for the first time, the second time isn't as fresh? Although it may be true for some shows, it is certainly not for John Mayer. Last summer I saw him on the summer tour and I didn't know him all that well. After that I gained a lot of knowledge and respect for his music and philosophy. So when h got up on stage I was equally excited to see what he had up his sleeve. I could write all day about how nasty he is at guitar, but I'll save my fingers. Let's just say that his improvisation is impeccable and showed his one handed guitar skills. One of John's favorites for this summer tour was Ray Charles' "I Don't Need No Doctor" (which he covered with John Scofield in 2005). A great old fashioned rock that John adds his own twist to. Other notable songs were "Belief" and the encore "Vultures" with a "Lowrider" intro.
That wasn't all. First up was Brett Dennen, a young, new songwriter with a Jack Johnson/reggae feel. Unique and a great voice also. After Brett was the one and only, Ben Folds. I'm sure many of the fans came out just to see Ben as his following has grown significantly over the years, and he's been known to play smaller venues, so SPAC was a great opportunity. The highlight of his set was his cover of "Such Great Heights" by The Postal Service. For those video inclined, watch a bit of his solo below:
